Kevin Beining (Class of '93)
Assistant Chief Photographer
WTVG-13 ABC
Toledo, OH
I got my first glimpse into the world of Television my
junior year of high school in John's class. At that time, we aired the
Coaches Corner show and also replays of football and basketball games on
channel 2 of the local cable...but I think it was the class projects
that really sparked my interest the most. I enjoyed going out and
playing with the cameras and seeing what kinds of crazy things I could
do. Little did I know that one day I would be paid to do just that…well
kind of.
Shortly after I graduated college, I took a job at the ABC station
in Toledo, Ohio and I have been here ever since. In my 9 plus years,
this job has taken me places I never imagined….I did reports next to the
rubble of the World Trade Center in New York just over a week after the
terrorist attacks…I was in Texas right after Hurricane Katrina, and
during Hurricane Rita…I’ve seen a president be sworn into office and
then watched a Pope say mass…I’ve also gotten to cover the Rose Bowl and
the Super Bowl and even chased a runaway train. Even when the stories
are not as exciting as these…I still get to meet interesting people
every day and tell their stories to our viewers. That is why I love my
job…I never know who I am going to meet or what story is around the next
corner.
